Today’s book recommendation is an early 1900s book called The Jungle by Upton Sinclair.
The short version – a family travels to the US to live the American dream, to only find out it’s a nightmare. This book also started the Food and Drug act through Roosevelt, as well as some other food safety practices.
Literature like this is an example of how far people will go to get the message across involving certain working and living conditions. This book explains actual family struggles, wage slavery, unsafe working conditions, fatal food poisoning, and con men taking advantage of non English speakers.
For those who want to make an actual voice in whatever you’re fighting for, read this first as a prime example of how the right story can get the right people involved.
