The rule of plain English

Too many people act like speaking unnecessary jargon, using big words, and quoting useless information makes them smart and intelligent. Sorry to say but you’re actually overcompensating.

The more simple you make something, the better someone will understand you, and can seem more intelligent due to speaking plain English. You’re not dumbing something down, you’re speaking to where your audience can understand and get the message with minimal to no miscommunication.

In short, know your audience before speaking. When in doubt, ask questions first.
